Our Dojo
The story of our dojo began in 1978, when Sensei Allen Mayne started his training at the age of twelve under Sensei Michael Griffin, a senior student of Sensei Iha.
Following the closure of Mr. Griffin’s original school, Sensei Mayne spent several years teaching in various local venues.
In 1984, Sensei Mayne formally reopened the Grand Rapids Branch Dojo directly under Sensei Iha. Originally located on Giddings Ave, the dojo moved to its permanent home at 5260 Division Ave in 1994.
Today, our school stands as a pillar of the martial arts community, built on over four decades of continuous practice and leadership.
